Paul Ellwood
Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) Chartered Accountant (CA – Financial Planning Specialist) Certified Financial Planner (CFP) After graduating from the University of Queensland, Paul spent seven years with Arthur Young & Co (now Ernst & Young) and Hungerfords (now KPMG), as a Chartered Accountant. During this time, Paul completed his legal qualifications and then left accounting to practice law as a Solicitor, rising to become Partner of Hawthorn, Cuppaidge & Badgery, Solicitors. In 1988, Paul co-founded Ellwood Barry McPherson Pty Ltd (EBM). The business soon gained a reputation for high-level technical advice in superannuation, particularly self-managed superannuation. This paved the way for a growing Financial Planning division, which is now the primary activity of the business, and one for which EBM has an enviable reputation. Paul is highly regarded in the Financial Planning profession for his grasp of complex legislative and technical issues and has been actively involved in promoting higher standards of advice through his association with the Securities Institute of Australia lecture programme and as an Assessor for students undertaking the Certified Financial Planner course. Paul is a member of the Financial Planning Association of Australia and a member and Financial Planning Specialist with The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia.
